Picture Courtesy www.gatewayniagara.com. There are three, not two, falls at Niagara Falls. The Canadian-Horseshoe, The American and the Bridal Veil Falls. Only 15 metres (50 feet) wide, the Bridal Veil Falls sits beside the American Falls with the small piece of rock called Luna Island, between it and the American Falls. It is often mistaken as just part of the American Falls. The brilliant green colour of the Niagara River is because of the dissolved minerals in the water. Approximately 60 tons of dissolved minerals are swept over Niagara Falls every minute. The colour comes from the dissolved salts and “rock flour”, very finely ground rock, picked up from limestone in the water and from the shales and sandstones under the limestone cap at the Falls. This is pointed out, with lots of information, when taking a Niagara Airbus Tour, so be sure to book a tour today.

The water falls 57 metres (188 feet) to the river below, where the water depth is 52 metres (170 feet). The deepest part of the entire Niagara River. The crestline of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls is approximately 670 metres (2,200 ft) wide, making it twice as wide as the American and Bridal Veil Falls combines.
